Gallery4Culture is seeking exhibition proposals for the season beginning in September 2016 and running through July 2017.

The gallery is located on the street-level of the 4Culture administrative offices in the heart of Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood and presents solo, collaborative and group shows by visual artists who reside in King County.

“Form, Not Function: Quilt Art at the Carnegie,” Carnegie Center for Art & History

New Albany, IN:    May 13 – July 9, 2016

Each year, a variety of quilts in the Form, Not Function exhibition are recognized for their excellence through the presentation of awards. The awards include: the Carnegie Center, Inc. $1,000 Best of Show prize; a $500 Award of Excellence in memory of textile artist Alma Lesch, sponsored by the DELvelopment Foundation; a $500 Award of Excellence presented by the Louisville Area Fiber and Textile Artists; a $300 Award of Excellence presented by River City Fiber Artists; a $100 Award for Creative Use of Stitching presented by the Southern Indiana Quilt Guild; a $100 Award for Political and Social Commentary; a $100 Inspired by Nature Award, and a $50 Visitors’ Choice Award, as well as additional Merit Awards sponsored by local individuals and organizations with an interest in the fiber arts.

“Transgressing Traditions: Contemporary Textiles by the Surface Design Association”

Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center, Auburn, NY:    June 3–August 21, 2016

The goal of the exhibition is to showcase national and international contemporary fiber art that expands upon traditional media and meaning. Makers are encouraged to submit work that pushes the boundaries and/or traditions of textile/fiber media, as perceived by the individual artist. Any textile technique or material is acceptable, including the use of nontraditional materials and time arts, such as video and sound. Works must have been completed on or after January 1, 2014. SDA encourages emerging, mid-career, and established artists to apply.

“Playing Favorites,” Quilt Alliance Annual Contest 2016

Asheville, NC

A contest for all quilters – we encourage everyone who makes quilts to enter our annual contest regardless of their style (traditional, modern, art) or technique (longarm, hand quilting, applique, pieced…) –all are welcomed and valued! This year’s theme celebrates playing with our favorites.

As usual, we welcome any technique, any concept that addresses the theme—but each entry must be a quilt (three layers stitched together). Finished quilts must be 16″ x 16″ in size and must include a label on the back to include at minimum the name of the artist, title, date & location made. In addition each quilt must have a 4″ sleeve sewn to the top of the quilt. All entries become a donation to the Quilt Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and after a national exhibition tour, will be auctioned to benefit the mission of the organization. “Functional Art,” Larson Gallery

In this national juried exhibition, functional art refers to aesthetic objects that serve a utilitarian purpose—how the artist expresses him/herself in items such as clothing, textiles, jewelry, tableware, tools, fixtures and furniture.

“H2Oh!” SAQA Exhibition, National Quilt Museum

Paducah, KY:    May 2017- December 2019

Water – it’s everywhere! This exhibition encourages the artist to interpret one of the most vital, desired, powerful, sacred, and enjoyed resources on earth in their own unique, individual style, whether abstract, graphic, or representational. Artwork may be two-dimensional or three, viewed from one side, two sides, or any angle.

Hands All Around,” IQF

Houston, TX:    November 3-6, 2016

International Quilt Festival will be presenting Hands All Around 2015: International Quilts at our annual Market and Festival in Houston this fall. This exhibit will premiere at International Quilt Market and Festival, November 3-6, 2016. We would also like to retain quilts for possible exhibit at International Quilt Festivals in 2017.  As it has been for the past twenty-nine years, Hands All Around will be the showcase for contemporary international quilt design at our shows.

“Blue Marble,” San Luis Obispo Museum of Art

San Luis Obispo, CA:    June 3–July 31, 2016

Blue Marble, refers to the spectacular color image of planet Earth taken with NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer. The theme for this exhibition welcomes artists who delve into subjects, themes, and motifs that have to do with our planet. Contemporary original 2D and 3D work in any media, including paintings, prints, drawings, photography, sculpture, and fine craft produced within the last two years is appropriate.
